Jérôme, pouvez-vous nous raconter votre parcours ? J’ai fait mes études en France. Sorti du Bac, j’ai fait une prépa et une école d’ingénieurs, toujours en jouant au foot à côté. Je jouais à Paris en DH, en universitaire. Puis j’ai fait un MBA en finances à la Sorbonne. J'étais prêt à entrer dans le monde du travail. J’avais des propositions sympa. Puis un jour, un coach américain m'appelle. Un ami français qui jouait aux Etats-Unis m'avait recommandé. Cet ami lui a dit: "j’ai un ami qui joue au foot à un très bon niveau. Est-ce que ça vous intéresse de le voir ?" Le coach m’a vu jouer par vidéo et via d'anciens joueurs français. Il m’a offert une super bourse pour étudier et jouer au foot au NCAA College Soccer de Caroline du Sud pour un an. Je n’ai pas hésité. Je me suis lancé dans cette expérience. Pensiez-vous passer professionnel une fois là-bas ? Non. J’y allais pour l’expérience. J’avais déjà arrêté le foot à haut niveau avant. Je partais à l’inconnu. Je suis arrivé là-bas, il y avait une super ambiance, des gens super sympa, avec de super études. Mais surtout un programme de foot universitaire hallucinant. Tout est fait en fonction des sportifs. Les infrastructures sont folles, tu voyages dans tous les Etats-Unis pour jouer au foot... Il y a plein de spectateurs aux matches. On était suivi par trois médecins et trois kinés tous les jours. C’était des conditions professionnelles. On avait du travail vidéo sur les équipes qu’on allait rencontrer. Des trucs qu’on aurait pas vu à un haut niveau français. J’ai adoré l’expérience. Au lieu d’y rester un an, j’y suis resté deux ans et demi. Mais il a fallu que je m’arrête. J’en étais à neuf ans d’études (rires). J’ai regardé s’il y avait des Français dans ce championnat universitaire NCAA. Il y en avait très peu. Je me suis dit qu’il fallait monter quelque chose pour aider les sportifs français et européens. J’en ai parlé à des coachs qui m’ont dit qu’il n’arrivaient pas à recruter en Europe. Ça m’a mis la puce à l’oreille. J’ai rencontré un avocat américain très connu dans le monde du sport qui maintenant travaille pour moi. On a décidé de monter University Elite Athletes pour aider les jeunes européens, africains, sud-américains à profiter de cette expérience de continuer leur sport à haut niveau tout en ayant de bons diplômes d’universités américaines. Quand avez-vous lancé University Elite Athletes ? Il y a deux ans. Ça commence à pas mal marcher. On a été contacté par un certain nombre athlètes et on a constaté qu’il y avait une demande énorme en France et partout dans le monde. Tout est fait pour les sportifs, c’est pour ça qu’il y a des infrastructures incroyables. Voilà pourquoi les coachs vont chercher des étrangers. En foot américain, basket, ils ont ce qu’il faut aux Etats-Unis. Mais en soccer, ils ont des déficits de formation par rapport à l’Europe ou à l’Amérique du Sud.
