Ce samedi, le Sporting Kansas City.Un peu d’histoire Kansas City fait partie de la MLS depuis son lancement en 1996. Mais le déménagement vers un nouveau stade prévu en plein milieu de la saison 2011 a poussé les propriétaires, OnGoal, LLC, à changer le nom en Sporting Kansas City. Ces investisseurs locaux avaient racheté la franchise à Lamar Hunt en 2006. Le stade Le 9 juin prochain, face au Chicago Fire, le Sporting Kansas City inaugurera (enfin) le Sporting Park, stade flambant neuf de 18 500 places à 160 millions de dollars, financé par les proprios de OnGoal, LLC. Le Cauldron, le Hillcrest Syndicate, le Southern Voodoo, les Yardbirds, le BSE et les Sudakas, principaux groupes de supporters, vont donc pouvoir se partager le nouvel écrin entièrement consacré au soccer du SKC. Les grands joueurs Le Hall of Fame du Sporting KC compte surtout quelques gloires locales, du style des ex-internationaux Alexi Lalas (1999), Chris Henderson (1998–2000), Tony Meola (1999–2004), Preki (1996–2000 et 2002–2005), Kerry Zavagnin (2000–2008), Kevin Hartman (2006–2010) ou encore l'emblématique Jimmy Conrad (2003–2010). Mais depuis deux ans, Kansas City ne parvient pas à accrocher une place en playoffs. 2011 sera-t-elle l'année du renouveau ? Bon à savoir... Initialement membre de la Conférence Ouest, KC évolue depuis 2005 dans la Conférence Est. Un Français évolue au Sporting. Il s’agit du Guadeloupéen Stéphane Auvray, passé par Vannes et Nîmes. Peter Vermes, l’actuel coach depuis 2009, a joué deux saisons sous les couleurs de Kansas City (2000–2002).
